Four things we hear on almost every first call in this sector. If two or more sound familiar, the fix is usually structural rather than a bigger budget.

  • A design engineer types 316L deep drawn enclosure IP67, or a hardness spec, or a part number stamped on the component in front of them. A homepage promising quality and precision matches none of those queries, and the shop that published its tolerance table gets the click.

  • Engineers design around the models they can pull into SOLIDWORKS today. A component with no STEP or IGES file never enters the assembly, so it never reaches the bill of materials — and the decision is made long before purchasing sends anyone an RFQ.

  • Name, email, message. Then four emails to establish quantity, annual usage, material, tolerance, finish and whether a drawing exists. Protolabs and Xometry return a price the same afternoon, so the estimate that arrives on Thursday is competing against one that landed on Monday.

  • Decades of product data sits inside a downloadable catalogue and a folder of datasheets. Search engines index the wrapper, not the specification, so every dimension, material grade and part number in that file is invisible to the engineer looking for exactly it.

  • Manufacturer's reps and distributors carry your line on commission, and an RFQ form that quotes direct reads as the factory competing with them. So the site gets neutered into a brochure, and the enquiry that should reach the territory rep the same morning sits in a shared inbox instead.

  • An engineer downloads a model in spring, the design freezes over the summer, and purchasing issues the order the following winter. Analytics records a bounce and a cold start. Without a record joining the two, the channel that actually won the programme gets cut at budget time.
