Custom Development

Built From Scratch, When Nothing Off the Shelf Fits

Most businesses do not need custom development, and we will say so on the first call. It earns its cost in one situation: the thing you are automating is the way your company actually works, and no platform on the market models it. When that is true, every month spent bending a template around the gap costs more than the build would have.

What you get

Everything Included in Custom Development

No vague retainers. Here is exactly what lands, and what it is for.

01

Domain and Data Modelling

Before any code, we map your entities, their relationships and the rules that must never be violated, then design the schema in PostgreSQL, MySQL or MongoDB. A wrong data model is the one mistake refactoring cannot cheaply undo.

02

Business Rules Encoded Once

The pricing matrix, the approval chain, the eligibility test — rules currently living in three people's habits and a laminated sheet by the printer. Written as code in Node.js, Laravel or Python, with tests against the awkward cases, so a rule is enforced rather than remembered.

03

Interfaces Shaped Like the Job

Screens built around the work rather than around the database: the day's queue, the exception list, the one form somebody fills in forty times before lunch. Built in React with TypeScript, and every field mirrors the constraint already in the schema, so a rule is never written twice and never disagrees with itself.

04

Third-Party API Integrations

Stripe, QuickBooks, Twilio, HubSpot, Google Calendar, a supplier's ageing SOAP endpoint — whatever your operation already runs on. We build against rate limits, retries and failure, because the integration that breaks silently costs more than one that errors loudly.

05

Getting the Existing Data In

The workbook, the old database, the CSV export nobody has opened since 2019. We import it, reconcile the duplicates and the three spellings of the same supplier, and run the old system alongside the new one until the two sets of numbers agree. This is routinely the longest task on a custom build and the one nobody budgets for.

06

Tests, Access Control and Handover

Automated tests over the business rules, role-based access checked on the server rather than hidden in the interface, a deploy pipeline that runs both before anything ships, and migrations under version control. You get a written architecture document, and the repository, database and hosting sit in your accounts from the first commit.

The Spreadsheet Runs the Company

Quotes, jobs and stock live in a shared workbook that three people edit at once and one person understands. A custom application turns those rules into something the system enforces rather than something staff remember.

No Platform Models Your Process

Your pricing depends on six variables, your approval chain has four steps, and every SaaS you have trialled forces you to work its way. Custom is the answer when the process is the competitive advantage.

Systems That Will Not Talk

Your CRM, your accounting package and your warehouse software each hold a version of the truth, and a person retypes between them daily. A custom integration layer and API make one of them authoritative.

The Old System Nobody Can Maintain

An Access database or a bespoke tool written by somebody who left in 2014. It still runs the business, one wrong click breaks it, and every replacement quoted so far has been a product that does eighty per cent.

Projects we handle
  • Internal business tools, dashboards and admin portals
  • Quoting, pricing and configurator applications
  • Job, dispatch and scheduling systems for field teams
  • Inventory, order and stock-tracking systems
  • REST APIs and integration layers between systems you already run
  • Spreadsheet and Access database replacements
  • Document, quote and report generation tools
  • Database design, migration and legacy system rebuilds
  • Custom modules and APIs added to an existing site
What it changes

Why businesses buy this

Not adjectives — the mechanism behind each one.

The Model Fits the Business

A platform makes you store your data the way it stores everyone's. A custom schema in PostgreSQL or MySQL holds your entities and your rules, so reports answer questions rather than approximate them.

No Licence Tax Per Seat

Software you own costs money to build and money to maintain, but not a fee every time you hire. Where a per-seat subscription grows with headcount, the arithmetic eventually crosses over.

The Awkward Case Is the Point

Every business has the rule that applies to one customer, one region or one product line. A platform makes you handle that by hand forever, or not at all. Custom code handles it in the same place as every other rule, and a test keeps it handled after the person who knew about it leaves.

You Own It Outright

The repository, the database, the domain and the hosting sit in your accounts from the first commit. There is no proprietary framework behind a licence and no vendor who can hold the build hostage.

Questions

Custom Development FAQs

Ask what happens if you accept the platform's way of working. If the answer is a mild annoyance, take the template — the constraint is saving you money. If the answer is that a person retypes data between two systems every day, or that nobody can quote a job correctly without ringing one particular colleague, custom pays for itself. We turn work away on this question more than any other.
