AI Search Optimisation

A growing share of buying research now ends inside an AI answer that never sends a click. We work on being the source that answer is built from, and we measure it.

The problem

AI answer engines summarise a handful of sources and cite a few. If you are not among them you are invisible for that question no matter where you rank — and traditional rank tracking will not show it happening, because the position did not change. The traffic did.

How we do it

What the work actually involves

/01

Content structured to be extractable

Clear question-shaped headings, the answer stated in the first forty words, specifics with numbers and named tools, and no burying the point under three paragraphs of preamble. Language models quote passages that stand alone.

/02

Crawlable without JavaScript

Most AI crawlers do not execute JavaScript. A client-rendered site is simply absent from their index. This is the first thing we check and, on React and Vue sites, usually the first thing we fix.

/03

Entity clarity

Consistent naming, structured data, an about page that states plainly what the company is and where, and corroboration across third-party sources. Models resolve entities from agreement between sources, not from one page asserting something.

/04

Citation share, tracked

We run your priority questions against each engine on a schedule and record who gets cited. That is the metric — not impressions, not position. It also shows which competitor is currently owning the answer.

Included

What you actually receive

  • AI crawler accessibility audit including robots.txt policy
  • Citation baseline across four engines for your priority questions
  • Content restructuring for extractability
  • Entity and structured data consolidation
  • Monthly citation share report with competitor comparison

Tools we use

  • ChatGPT
  • Perplexity
  • Gemini
  • Schema.org
  • Search Console

Still deciding

  • GEO vs SEO

Same foundations, different target and different measurement. GEO is not a replacement for SEO and nobody should sell it as one.

Common failures

Where this usually goes wrong

The three we are called in to fix most often. If any of these describe your current setup, that is the first thing we would change.

  • Rendering on the client

Most AI crawlers do not execute JavaScript. A client-rendered site is not ranked badly by them — it is absent from their index entirely. This is a mechanical problem with a mechanical fix and it is the first thing to check.

  • Measuring it like SEO

Rank tracking will not show this happening. The position did not change; the click did. Without citation tracking, an engine quietly absorbing your traffic looks like nothing at all.

  • Writing for the model instead of the reader

Answer-first structure and specific numbers help both. Keyword-stuffed copy dressed up as an FAQ helps neither, and models are demonstrably better at ignoring it than search engines ever were.

Measurement

How you will know it is working

Agreed before we start, so progress is visible in the months before it shows up in revenue.

AI crawler access
Whether GPTBot, PerplexityBot and ClaudeBot can fetch and read your pages at all. Binary, and the first thing to fix.
Week 1
Citation share
Percentage of your tracked questions where you are named, sampled across several runs because these systems are non-deterministic.
Monthly
Competitor share
Who is being cited instead. It is usually more actionable than your own number, because it names the source to displace.

They overlap heavily and the foundations are identical — crawlable, well-structured, trustworthy content. What differs is the target and the measurement. SEO optimises for a ranked list of links; GEO optimises to be the passage a model quotes, and it is measured in citations rather than positions. Anyone selling it as an entirely separate discipline is overselling.
